There are many excellent resources on-line for students. It is important that you check the credentials of the organisation behind sites you visit. Some sites appear to be 'educational' but they can contain inappropriate advertising, or the games and activities are not age appropriate. Or perhaps they are not really teaching your children anything! Some of the resources we use are listed below:
Woodlands Junior Schools Maths and Literacy Zones
Woodlands Junior Schools is located in the United Kingdom but for years teachers from other countries have been using their amazing web page for quality literacy and numeracy learning games. There is a 'Maths Zone' and a 'Literacy Zone'. The games are from all over the web, but it is great to have them all organised in the one place together! Thanks Woodlands!
Mathletics
Mathletics is an online subscription mathematics website that all of our students can access. They all have their own personal login and password and this can be accessed from home.
Sunshine Online
Sunshine Online is an online subscription literacy website that all of our students have a login and password for. It features levelled fiction/non fiction texts and many word and sound games.
Stop Bullying
This website provides facts about bullying, has games and videos and gives ideas about what you can do if you know someone who is being bullied or if you have experienced bullying yourself.
Kids Help
Phone: 1800551800 This is a free, private and confidential telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25. There is information on the site about topics such as peer pressure, fights with friends and loneliness. There are also games, competitions and fun kids polls to take part in. It is a great resource to help young people of all ages negotiate their way through childhood and adolescence.
